Iglesia de San Cayetano

Turn right along calle San Cayetano to calle Embajadores and the Iglesia de San Cayetano 2 [map] (Mon–Sat 9am–noon, 6pm–8pm, Sun 9am–2pm, 6pm–8pm; free). The pink brick façade dates to the late-17th century but was almost totally destroyed in the Civil War and rebuilt in the 1960s.

Further down on the left is Plaza Arturo Barea 3 [map], renamed in 2017 in homage to the author of The Forging of a Rebel. On the right is the Mercado de San Fernando (www.mercadodesanfernando.es; Mon–Fri 9am–2.15pm, 5pm–8pm, Sat 9am–2.30pm) food market. The large brick structure next door is the 18th-century Escuelas Pías de San Fernando, home to the city’s Open University.
